8th Neuroendoscopy Week 2019

Date: September 15-21, 2019

Location: Department of Neurosurgery Saarland University, Homburg-Saar / Germany.

Everything is ready for the “8th Neuroendoscopy Week” at the Department of Neurosurgery Saarland University, Homburg-Saar, Germany. The course, run under the auspices of WFNS, IFNE, ISMISS and WSCS, will consist of 3 different modules: endoscopic skull base surgery, cranial and spinal neuroendoscopy. An international faculty will outline endoscopic techniques followed by hands-on dissection of human and animal models. Part of the course will also dedicated to live surgeries and lectures delivered by experts in the field of neurosurgery and otolaryngology.

Ganglioglioma is a rare and slowly growing low-grade glioma, usually occuring in the cerebral hemispheres with a predilection for the temporal lobe. Patients frequently present with seizures which are resistant to pharmacological treatment. For this reason surgical resection or gamma knife irradiation are the best choices in the management of this pathology. This article describes the case of a 26-year-old woman with a frontal ganglioglioma, who presented with epilepsy and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) rhinorrhea caused by skull base erosion.

It is a pleasure to present to you the 5th edition of “International Summer School - Transnasal Endoscopic Surgery”. The course will consist of 3 days of hands-on dissection on injected, fresh-frozen specimens under the guidance of international experts. The last 2 days will be dedicated to live surgeries in which all the techniques will be put into practice and described step by step.  Across the course, lectures and debates about anatomy, surgery and pathology of skull base lesions will be lead by guest speakers. The aim of the course is not only to offer a multidisciplinary perspective on endoscopic surgery, but also to emphasize the necessity of a collaborative approach.
