Milan, March 20th, 2026.

UpSurgeOn, an Italian deep-tech company active in the development of advanced technologies for the enhancement of surgical skills based on hybrid simulation and digital platforms, announces the closing of a €5 million investment round.

The operation was led by CDP Venture Capital SGR with the participation of Simest S.p.A. (through the resources of Fund 394/81 – Participatory Investments and Venture Capital Section managed in agreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation), Deep Blue Ventures (DBV)—the DeepTech Venture Capital fund managed by Deep Ocean Capital SGR S.p.A.—Azimut Libera Impresa SGR S.p.A., through its own Venture Capital funds, and FBH S.p.A.
UpSurgeOn, founded by two Italian neurosurgeons and composed of a team of surgeons, engineers, and digital creators, develops advanced hyper-realistic multidisciplinary simulation technologies. These are based on a hybrid approach that integrates virtual reality, advanced physical models, and digital platforms with the goal of making surgical training more accessible, sustainable, and accurate globally. In just a few years, the company has earned the approval of numerous international scientific institutions, collaborates with some of the world’s leading medtech companies, and has commercialized its technologies in over 110 countries. Today, applications range from cranial and spinal neurosurgery to plastic surgery, otolaryngology, and orthopedics, constantly expanding into new disciplines and maintaining a growing presence in scientific literature.

The raised funds will support the company’s global expansion, the enhancement of proprietary platforms across new surgical specialties, and the acceleration of research and development activities in the field of advanced psychomotor enhancement in surgery. The objective is to strengthen the vision of a new generation of surgeons trained through objective performance evaluations, certified metrics, and increasingly high standards of patient safety, driving a significant impact on the sustainability of healthcare systems and the reduction of insurance costs tied to surgical practice.

This new investment follows the €3 million round completed in 2022 with the support of Guala Dispensing S.p.A., which represented a key milestone in accelerating the company’s technological and industrial development. Over the years, UpSurgeOn has also secured several national and international grants supporting its research and innovation activities, further strengthening its position in the European deep-tech landscape.

Federico Nicolosi, CEO and Founder of UpSurgeOn, commented: “We are extremely proud and motivated by this important round and honored to collaborate with highly visionary partners. We will continue to expand our global presence while maintaining a clear focus on the concrete needs of surgery: UpSurgeOn stems from the ability to listen to a complex ecosystem, without ever forgetting that the ultimate goal of our work is the patient’s well-being.”
Mario Scuderi, Head of the Evoluzione Fund at CDP Venture Capital, stated: “Investing in UpSurgeOn means supporting an exceptional team with a unique blend of cross-functional skills. We are convinced that this platform can have a tangible impact on patient safety worldwide: having increasingly prepared surgeons means improving people’s lives. In a sector where access to quality training is still deeply unequal depending on geographical areas, UpSurgeOn has the potential to democratize surgical excellence on a global scale.”
Domenico Nesci, CEO of Deep Ocean Capital SGR and Partner of Deep Blue Ventures, stated: “UpSurgeOn represents a concrete example of how deep tech can transform scientific research into high-impact industrial applications. The ability to integrate physical simulation, digital platforms, and virtual reality into a single technological ecosystem opens new perspectives in advanced surgical training. With Deep Blue Ventures, we support entrepreneurial entities that do not merely innovate a product, but redefine industry standards and infrastructures: in the case of UpSurgeOn, contributing to improving the quality of medical training and, ultimately, patient safety on a global scale.”
Guido Bocchio, Head of Venture Capital at Azimut Libera Impresa SGR S.p.A., stated: “As Azimut Venture Capital, we are thrilled to support UpSurgeOn on its journey to revolutionize medical training. Their advanced simulation technology aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice, offering surgeons a hyper-realistic environment. We believe that Federico Nicolosi, CEO and co-founder, also in his capacity as a former surgeon, is the right person to leverage the development of this technology to support patients.”
Vera Veri, Chief Investment Officer at SIMEST, added: “With this investment, SIMEST supports the international expansion path of UpSurgeOn, an Italian deep-tech reality bringing innovative solutions for advanced surgical training to global markets. The technological approach developed by the company, integrating hybrid simulation, physical models, and digital platforms, responds to a growing international demand for training tools that are increasingly effective, accessible, and based on objective metrics. Operations like this contribute to strengthening the presence of highly technological Italian companies in major global scientific and medical ecosystems, favoring the diffusion of Made in Italy expertise and innovation.”

From a legal standpoint, CDP Venture Capital and the investor pool were advised by DLA Piper, while UpSurgeOn, the founding partners, and the investing partner Guala Dispensing S.p.A. were advised by the Ughi e Nunziante law firm.
